Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Are your cars “real” Shelbys?
Yes! Each authentic Shelby GT500CR and GT350CR is approved by Shelby American with an official Shelby serial number and registered in the Shelby Worldwide Registry. Our cars are “real” Shelbys. Classic Recreations is licensed to build GT350 and GT500 continuation cars in both stock and Pro-Touring form, and we have produced more restored Shelby Mustangs than any other shop in the world.

How do you register your cars?
All of our cars start with original 1966, 1967, or 1968 Mustang bodies and are titled as such. The cars are stripped down to bare metal, reinforced and rebuilt into GT350CR or GT500CR Shelby Mustangs. From the engine to the suspension and interior they look brand new, but the core is still original Henry Ford sheet metal which makes registration easy in any state of the union.

Do you use aftermarket bodies or sheet metal?
Currently all of our cars are built on original 1966, 1967, or 1968 Mustang bodies that have been reinforced as necessary with replacement sheet metal and Shelby approved composite panels.

How long does it take to build a car?
Our cars are made-to-order and are built by hand. Each build typically takes 2,500 man hours of fabrication and finishing work to complete. Build times may vary depending on how many orders are currently in the shop, but typically a build takes about a year.

Where are your cars built?
Our facility is based in Yukon, Oklahoma. We modeled our state-of-the-art facility after the original one Carroll Shelby ran in California. We have several different buildings on the property, each one dedicated to a different specialization: bodywork, paint, a clean room for engine work, a dynamometer for tuning, a final assembly building and an inspection area. We are the only facility of our kind that builds Shelbys in this manner.

Do you sell your parts?
We are a licensed dealer for the following brands: Ford Performance, Shelby American, Scott Drake, American Racing, Painless Wiring, Centerforce Clutches, and ProCharger. We also offer our own branded parts for Mustangs and Shelbys including gauge clusters, gas caps, and body panels. You can shop all the products we offer here:

Do you sell cars internationally?
We have built and sold cars to customers around the world and can coordinate international shipping. We can also make any GT500CR or GT350CR Shelby Mustang right-hand drive.

Why are your cars so expensive? I’ve seen “original” Shelby Mustangs for less than your cars.
Our cars are expensive because we build them from the ground up with best-in-class parts. When you buy an old car, especially on the internet, you never really know what’s lurking under the shiny paint. When you buy a “new build” from an unlicensed car builder, they may use substandard parts or reuse worn out factory hardware. We also use the highest-quality modern aftermarket products on all of our vehicles – you are essentially getting a brand new car, but with the style and panache of an iconic Shelby Mustang. From DSE Suspension , TCP Suspension, American Racing ,Wilwood Brakes, Centerforce twin-disc clutches to Ford Performance Crate Engines, we source the best American-made parts and then engineer each car for maximum performance, reliability and long-term value.
